89-year-old tripped over speed bump

AN 89-year-old woman died in a freak council car park tragedy.

Elizabeth Bury struck her head on a kerb, suffered broken ribs, and was pronounced dead at the scene after tripping over a speed bump on Tape Street car park in Cheadle.

The Sentinel reported yesterday how the tragic incident happened in February 2024.

And now an inquest has ruled that retired farmer Elizabeth, of Wilton Avenue, Cellarhead, 'died from complications following a fall, and the coroner raised concerns over the speed bump.

Now details of the August 2024 inquest have emerged this week after Staffordshire Moorlands District Council came clean about why it had resurfaced Tape Street car park earlier this year.

The improvements to Tape Street car park included the replacement of speed bumps and the installation of new signs and crossing points.
