SANDON shrugged off a slow start to the season to secure their first NSSCL Division Five success at Cheadle thirds' expense.

Sandon had lost their opening five matches, but it was a case of sixth time lucky in their weekend meeting.

Richard Whitehead (46) and David Nash (45) made early impressions for Sandon, before Steve Greatholder upped the tempo in the latter stages.

Greatholder blazed eight fours and six sixes in his 80 not out as Sandon closed on 226-8 from their 40 overs.

Ray Ginders and Harry Bonehill both picked up a couple of wickets for Cheadle.

Cheadle struggled to gain any momentum in their reply, even though Noah Shaw, Elliot Hall and Zach Rushton all made 12.

But Sajith Fernando’s 5-22 left the home side all out for 60.

Leycett seconds were also in excellent form to sweep aside Sandyford 2nd XI.

David Speakman’s 80, which contained 11 fours and one six, formed the backbone of Leycett’s 193-8 from their allocation.

Support was plentiful with Charlie Griffiths (39), Martin Mason (24) and Liam Bedson (21) impressing.
