Residents call on councillors 'to save town'

'Nobody wants to see overdevelopment'
SENIOR councillors have spoken in support of a campaign against the 'overdevelopment' of a town.
Residents fear the historic country market town of Eccleshall could almost double in size over the coming years due to the level of proposed housebuilding across 10 separate sites.
Ward councillor Jeremy Pert presented a petition to Stafford Borough Council's cabinet. Around 50 residents packed into the meeting at Stafford's Civic Centre, many wearing T-shirts or holding signs that said 'Save Eccleshall.'
Council leader Aidan Godfrey welcomed the group to the meeting. "We don’t often have an attendance like this for cabinet," he told them.
"It shows how much you care about overdevelopment. Nobody wants overdevelopment - I think we are all on the same page on that."
