'Red route will make it clear parking restrictions aren't optional'

TRAFFIC wardens have been deployed to one city centre street 1,333 times in one year - to tackle 'illegal parking'.

Now Hanley’s busy Broad Street is to become a red route.

The double-red lines will replace the existing double-yellow lines.

A red route is where stopping, parking and loading are prohibited at all times - except where there are designated bays.

It has previously been seen as a way to ease congestion and make certain roads safer. But businesses on Broad Street had raised concerns over the restrictions with one place selling up labelling it 'the final nail in the coffin'.
