Pressure is off for Baker after Castle complete survival
April 26, 2025
|The Sentinel
NEWCASTLE Town boss Neil Baker admitted to a feeling of “massive relief” after his side ensured their safety in the Northern Premier League West Division.
A 1-0 win against Atherton Collieries on Saturday was enough to do the job and they went into Monday's 0-0 draw at Kidsgrove Athletic with no pressure as they bettered their cause with another point.
The irony is, they have a huge say in who takes the last relegation place.
Either Wythenshawe Town - who won 3-0 against rivals Wythenshawe in front of more than 1,000 fans on Monday - or Kidsgrove will be relegated.
Baker's side host Wythenshawe Town on Saturday on the final day. Kidsgrove need a point at Bootle to stay up. But if Newcastle lose and Kidsgrove lose, it will be Kidsgrove who go down given their goal difference is 10 goals worse than their rivals for the drop.
Newcastle can just enjoy the game and, for them, whatever will be, will be.
