Megan's memorial match raises £860

DOZENS of spectators gathered to watch the fifth annual memorial match in honour of Stoke City fan Megan Newton, below.

The 18-year-old’s life was cut short on April 20, 2019, when she was raped and murdered in her Stoke flat by schoolmate Joseph Trevor, who is now serving life behind bars.

The memorial match, held at Newcastle College each year, pits Megan’s friends and former college teammates against the current college team. The old guard have held their ground against their younger opponents over the years, winning three matches and losing one.

Lauren Phillips, of Burslem, was one of the women toughing out windy conditions to keep her friend’s memory alive. The pair studied a sports science Btec together.
