RUARI Paton is hoping he can earn himself a place in the Port Vale squad that hosts Leyton Orient, tomorrow.

The 25-year-old Dubliner went out on loan in January to Dundee United and, on his return, was injured just prior to the start of this season.

But he returned to the fold and made his mark with a goal in Tuesday's 4-1 victory against Leeds United U21s in the EFL Trophy.

It puts him back in the frame to feature in a side that’s struggling to score goals but he will have stiff competition with Devante Cole and Dajaune Brown waiting to put their own stamp in League One.

The goal on Tuesday, inset, was borne out of frustration after his injury setback and he told reporters in the pre-match press conference: “Yeah probably, yeah. It's been the culmination of a couple of weeks but I felt like I was raring to go and that setback was, well I don’t really get injured, so maybe that’s what came out there.

“I wanted that moment three or four weeks ago when the season started.

“So I would say it was a bit of relief and I really miss it. I miss it so much when I’m not playing. You can get sick of the gym quite quickly.
