Government is urged to stick to its migrants barracks plans

MINISTERS have been urged not to be “terrorised” out of housing asylum seekers at military bases by immigration pressure groups.

Tory former Home Office minister Lord Blencathra, who said he had stayed at both Cameron Barracks in Inverness and Crowborough Training Camp in East Sussex in the late 1970s, sought assurances that cash spent at the two sites would only be for essential health and safety and not to create private, ensuite accommodation.
The Conservative peer argued if barrack rooms were good enough for soldiers "then it should be good enough for illegal asylum seekers”.
