Developer's private road plan branded 'money-grubbing'
COUNCILLORS have refused to let a developer change the design of a new housing estate - because binmen would not be able to drive to people's homes.
Markden Homes secured planning permission for 43 homes on land off Lamphouse Way, in Wolstanton, in 2023, with all the roads on the estate set to be adopted by Staffordshire County Council.
But the company now wants to change the layout of the development's northern section, which would see a cul-de-sac of 14 homes become a private road instead.
Refuse wagons do not go down private roads, meaning future residents would have to drag their wheelie bins to a collection point on the adopted highway.
