Demolition at iconic Institute paves way for heritage works

A 'PLANNED and controlled' demolition has been carried out on one of the city’s most iconic buildings as efforts are underway to breathe fresh life into the site.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council has reassured residents that the demolition at Burslem's Wedgwood Institute focused just on a section of gable wall - with the rest of the historic site untouched.

It comes as 'remedial works' continue on the Grade II*-listed Queen Street building. Last year Stoke-on-Trent City Council secured £318,966 from Historic England to carry out the much-needed safeguarding works.
