Castle shine to defeat Wood Lane

NEWCASTLE & Hartshill thirds brought an end to NSSCL Division Six leaders Wood Lane's unbeaten start to the season.

Wood Lane had opened the campaign with seven successive wins, but fell to their first defeat on their trip to Castle.

Newcastle & Hartshill reached 168-9 from their 40 overs - the foundations of which were set by T Angoda and G Hickman.

The openers put on 87 for the first wicket, with Angoda making 44 and Hickman chipping in with 43.

R Hall added 21, while C Knight (3-39) and A Brown (3-24) took three wickets apiece. M Leigh weighed in with a couple of scalps.

Leigh then made 40 in Wood Lane's run chase and Brown contributed 34.

However, they couldn't maintain their winning run as they were limited to 152-9 when stumps were drawn.

A Keates, M Smith, Hickman and J Wilson shared eight of the wickets to fall.

Caverswall made it seven wins out of eight with a home victory over Wedgwood seconds.
