Tropical depression forms outside PAR, unlikely to affect Phl

A low-pressure area (LPA) outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) has developed into a tropical depression, but the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the system is unlikely to enter PAR or directly impact the country.

As of 3 p.m. yesterday, the tropical depression was located about 1,365 kilometers northeast of extreme Northern Luzon. It is expected to move eastward for several hours before shifting northeastward by Saturday, heading farther away from the Philippine landmass.

PAGASA said the system is not enhancing the southwest monsoon and remains too distant to cause any direct weather disturbance in the country. Cloud clusters associated with the tropical depression are also not affecting Philippine territory, so it is not expected to bring rain or winds inland.
