Rising leptospirosis cases alarm QC gov't

Following the widespread flooding in Metro Manila in recent weeks, the Quezon City government yesterday advised residents to immediately seek medical help if they manifest symptoms of leptospirosis.

The local government expressed alarm over the rising cases of leptospirosis in the city.

Data from the Quezon City Epidemiology and Surveillance Division showed that 178 leptospirosis cases have been recorded this year. The figure is over 22 percent higher than the 140 cases logged during the same period in 2024, the QCESD said.

Deaths due to leptospirosis reached 23, up from the 18 fatalities reported in the same period last year.
