Proposal to Transfer Flood Control Funds to LGUs Backed

San Juan Mayor and Metro Manila Council president Francis Zamora is backing Manila Mayor Isko Moreno's proposal to transfer the funding for flood control projects from the national government to local government units (LGUs), saying this could make implementation faster.
"It's worth studying, and if there is a possibility to download the funding to the local government, it will really make things faster for us," Zamora said in an interview on News5 yesterday.
Under the current setup, flood control funds mostly go to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
Zamora noted that for San Juan, which operates on an annual budget of P3 billion, it would be difficult to finance large-scale flood control projects without the national government's support.
