Input delays put poultry farmers at risk

Poultry farmers are once again placed at a critical juncture as they scramble for delayed production inputs amid local shortage, further exacerbated by global trade uncertainties.

In a statement, the Philippine Rural Reconstruction Movement (PRRM) raised the alarm on inadequate supply of farm inputs such as feeds, yellow corn and hatching eggs—all vital components of poultry production.

PRRM president Edicio dela Torre urged the government to expedite the accreditation of input suppliers to allow farmers access to cheaper and more reliable resources.

Currently, the shortage of farm inputs is raising production costs, thereby weakening local competitiveness of the industry.

"Importing inputs instead of frozen chicken, supported by faster accreditation and smarter import controls, would protect farmers, sustain supply and help manage inflation more effectively," Dela Torre said.
