Customs chief on lifestyle checks: We'll do our best

Customs Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno yesterday underscored the challenges they may face in the conduct of lifestyle checks, both among Bureau of Customs (BOC) personnel and other officials who may be involved in smuggling activities.

"The problems inside the BOC itself are really tremendous and this has been caused through the years and the decades," Nepomuceno said in an interview with "Storycon" on One News.

"To untangle them and then look inwardly into our own personnel will be challenging, but we will do our best to follow the directive," he added.

Nepomuceno, who assumed his post in July, highlighted the importance of coordination between different agencies to gather the necessary evidence against those involved in illegal activities.
