Ex-ITV chair's 'save public service broadcasters' plea

June 08, 2025

|

The Observer

The co-chair of the Creative Industries Council and former chair of ITV has called for the government's forthcoming industrial strategy to include a plan "not just for the future of the BBC, but for the future of public service broadcasting".

- Rachael Healy

Speaking to The Observer, Peter Bazalgette said that for UK public service broadcasters (PSBs) to survive the next decade, an overhaul of the competition regime is required to recognise that PSBs are now competing in the "video advertising market", allowing collaboration between them, such as "full mergers, shared streaming services, or shared advertising sales".
