Petitioners say nearly 65 lakh people likely to be excluded from Bihar electoral roll due to SIR; hearing on Aug 12 13
THE Supreme Court on Tuesday said that it will step in immediately if there is a "mass exclusion" during the SIR (Special Intensive Revision) exercise of electoral rolls in Bihar. The court was hearing a batch of pleas challenging the revision of electoral rolls ahead of the state assembly polls scheduled for November.
A two-judge bench of Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi made these observations, after senior lawyer Kapil Sibal, representing some petitioners, including NGO, Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), informed the court that people were excluded from the draft list that is set to be published by the poll panel on August 1.
