Devanagari '₹' makes way for Tamil '௹' in TN Budget logo

AMIDST its ongoing tussle with the centre on the three-language policy, the state government dropped the ₹ symbol for the Tamil '௹' (roo) in its budget logo, ahead of the budget presentation scheduled on Friday.

Chief Minister MK Stalin, on Thursday, shared a budget curtain-raiser video on 'X', at the end of which the logo of the Tamil Nadu budget carried a ௹ instead of the ₹ symbol which found a place in last year's logo.
Asked why the symbol was replaced, the State Planning Commission (SPC) vice-chairman J Jeyaranjan said, "We didn't want to use Devanagari."
In response to a question on what necessitated the move when the ₹ symbol had been designed by a Tamil man, Jeyaranjan said, "A lot of Tamils are doing a lot of things, we cannot incorporate everything."
D Udhaya Kumar, who designed the ₹ symbol, is the son of former DMK MLA N Dharmalingam.
