SC seeks details of FIRs filed against Muslim men for misusing triple talaq

The Supreme Court on Wednesday asked the Centre to file an affidavit detailing the FIRs and chargesheets against Muslim men who invoked triple talaq for divorce, violating the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights in Marriage) Act, 2019.
The SC was hearing a batch of petitions challenging the constitutional validity of the 2019 Act. The petitioners submitted that the Act violates the fundamental rights enshrined in the Constitution.
A two-judge bench of Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar asked the Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, senior law officer for the Centre, for details about the FIRs and chargesheets against Muslim men under the law and cases pending in the courts.
