TEN cadres of the banned CPI (Maoist) surrendered before the police in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma on Friday, choosing to step away from violence and return to the mainstream.
The group, which included six women, also handed over one AK-47 rifle, two self-loading rifles, one .303 rifle, one BGL launcher, anda Sten gun to the security forces.
Together, the women Maoists carried a bounty of %33 lakh. After the surrender, all ten cadres planted saplings at the ‘Vayan Vatika’ — a Gondi phrase meaning “garden of hope and future” — located at the rehabilitation centre in Sukma, marking their commitment to anew beginning.
