A tourist from Assam, Prof Debashish Bhattacharjee, had a close brush with death as terrorists opened fire in the picturesque Pahalgam town of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, massacring 26 people.
Bhattacharjee, who is the head of the Bengali Department at Silchar's Assam University, says he escaped death by reciting the Islamic verse "la ilaha illallah" in front of one of the terrorists. The varsity professor was vacationing in Pahalgam's Baisaran with his family when the terrorists struck.
