Delay in affiliation, tech glitch hinder med college expansion

INDIRA Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute (IGMCRI) has faced significant hurdles in its efforts to expand postgraduate medical seats and introduce new courses, primarily due to administrative delays and technical issues.

Right from receiving an Essentiality Certificate (EC) from the Puducherry government for enhancing 30 PG seats and introducing new courses such as MD Paediatrics, MD Biochemistry, and MD Physiology, the process has been marred by setbacks.

The institution applied to Pondicherry University for Consent of Affiliation (COA) for 30 seats based on the EC, but the university approved only 16 seats following an assessment by a team, led by Dr. Pankaj Kundra of JIPMER.

This late receipt of the COA from the university further compounded the problem.
