Retired teacher sculpts 'jumbo' as token of love for his school

Though retired, 80-year-old Govindhan P P continues to visit the Government LP School in Kozhummal, Kannur, every morning—not to teach, but to craft a cement elephant sculpture as a heartfelt gift to the school where he once studied and later taught.

A native of Karivellur Peralam grama panchayat, Govindhan quietly arrives in the early hours and works on the 4.5-ft-tall sculpture before students begin their day. Funded entirely from his own pocket, the project began in May and is expected to be completed by August.
