Changes in place to tackle traffic snarls at Green Circle

In a bid to avoid fatal accidents, Vellore police create a new lane and introduce a free right turn for vehicles heading to new bus stand

TO ease traffic congestion at Green Circle, a major junction used by city residents and travellers from outside the city, Vellore police, along with Manonidhi Division Engineer of Road Safety from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) Coimbatore, conducted a two-hour study on Sunday and implemented a few changes to the road rules.

Vellore Superintendent of Police N Mathivanan told TNIE that plastic barricades were brought in by the NHAI to create a new lane at Green Circle, allowing vehicles travelling from Katpadi and Sathuvachari to the New Bus Stand to take a free right turn. These changes come after Mary Pushparani, a 66-year-old resident of Sathuvachari was crushed to death by a lorry last week when the two-wheeler she was travelling on tried to take a right turn towards the New Bus Stand.
