The Supreme Court is set to hear on July 28 the petition filed by Justice Yashwant Varma of the Allahabad High Court, challenging the in-house inquiry committee report that indicted him over the recovery of unaccounted cash from his official residence in Delhi.

- Suchitra Kalyan Mohanty @ New Delhi

The matter will be heard by a bench comprising Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice Augustine George Masih.

The case has drawn sharp attention, as impeachment proceedings against Justice Varma have already been initiated in the Parliament, following a recommendation from former Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna. The judge had called the in-house report "untenable" and accused the panel of reaching adverse conclusions based on inferences rather than evidence.
