No STP, Kollidam pollution puts laundry workers in a quandary

DUE to the intense summer heat and untreated sewage water continuing to flow into the Kollidam river, over 200 laundry workers from Srirangam have been facing a severe crisis.
These workers who depend on the river for daily livelihood have urged the corporation to immediately operationalise the sewage treatment plant (STP) constructed in March 2024.
Though patches of stagnant water seen from the Thiruvanaikovil bridge may give the impression of water availability, workers say that most of it is contaminated due to the corporation's unregulated sewage discharge in Kollidam.
