Mayors urge govt to form metropolitan planning commissions for municipal corporations in state

THE Mayor's Council, which met in Thrissur on Tuesday for its monthly meeting, urged the state government to form metropolitan planning commissions (MPCs) for planning projects and monitoring municipal corporations in Kerala, and also called for sweeping changes in various procedures in the implementation of schemes within their jurisdictions.

After the meeting, Kochi Mayor M Anilkumar, who headed the council, said Kerala was the first Indian state to form an urban commission to study the problems of the corporations and its report was submitted timely. "The commission too recommended forming MPCs in Kerala, especially in Kochi without delay, followed by Thiruvananthapuram," Anilkumar said.
