GENERAL Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of Army Staff, said on Tuesday that under the financial constraints, the United Nation (UN) Peacekeeping missions have to be planned at smaller scales and will have to move towards preventive diplomacy.
“Reduced funding for UN missions will be a reality and thus missions have to be planned with lesser boots on ground and more reliance on tech.
Thus, militaries can help in negotiations, because of the reduced presence of manpower UN moving towards preventive diplomacy and sustainable peace building and not just armed presence,” General Dwivedi said.
