Families Struggle to Cope as Accident Victims Fight for Life

FOUR families remain in extreme distress as their loved ones injured in Sunday's road accident outside the General Hospital continue to battle for survival.

Two of the victims are still in critical care, and with every injured person being an earning member, the families now face the dual burden of medical uncertainty and financial ruin.

For Shajeela, wife of Shafi, 42, an autorickshaw driver from Azhikode, the days blur into visiting her unconscious husband, and sleepless nights. Doctors have told her not to keep hope. He was the sole breadwinner for his family, which includes three children. His other partner, Shamna, who has a speech impairment, also depends entirely on his income. With no means of earning now, the women in the household dread the uncertain future.
