Vendors have a tough time when prices go up as shelf life of perishable goods is very less
Heavy pre-monsoon showers in May have disrupted the supply chain, leading to a sudden surge in the prices of vegetables. Even humble brinjal costs Rs 40 per kg.
Two notable exceptions to the trend are onion and tomato. Deepak, a wholesale vegetable seller, said: "Drumstick, ring beans cost Rs 120/kg. Even radish costs Rs 60/kg. There is a short supply of vegetables from Bengaluru and other places. There is no supply of vegetables from local farmers either."
