The Rising Tide of PROCTOLOGY CASES
January 18, 2025
|The New Indian Express Shivamogga
In recent weeks, I have operated on several cases of haemorrhoids (a type of ano-rectal disease) in children under 16 or 17 years of age.
This is highly concerning because haemorrhoids, a disease typically seen in adults, are now appearing even in very young children. I recall my teacher's lectures on haemorrhoids, where they were introduced as a condition seen mostly in adults and elderly individuals. The drastic change in the incidence of this ailment can be attributed to changes in lifestyle, particularly dietary habits. People now resort to non-indigenous food options like Chinese or North Indian cuisine, rather than adhering to traditional, indigenous food practices. Food habits should be closely aligned with local atmospheric, environmental, and cultural contexts.
