Snail infestation gives sleepless nights to areca growers across dist

Snails are nocturnal and thrive in plantations that are prone to waterlogging

ARECA growers in the district are in distress due to snail menace in their plantations. In many places, areca palms have been destroyed by snails.

Prof Nagarajappa Adivappar, head of Arecanut Research Centre, Keladi Shivappa Nayak University of Agriculture and Horticulture Sciences, told TNIE that snails attack the palms during monsoon. The pest attack was rampant in the district in July due to heavy rain.
