Sri Raghavendra Swamy was a revered saint, philosopher, and proponent of Dvaita Vedanta.

Renowned for his profound scholarship, steadfast devotion, miracles, and compassion, he established Mantralayam as a spiritual center. His teachings on righteous living, wisdom, and devotion continue to inspire millions. His Brindavana at Mantralayam remains a focal point of faith and divine grace for devotees across the world.

Birth and Family Background Sri Raghavendra Swamy was born Venkata Natha (also called Venkatanatha or Venkata Ramana) to Thimanna Bhatta and Gopikamba on Thursday, Sukla Navami of Phalguna month in 1595, under Mrigasirsa Naksatra, at Bhuvanagiri, near present-day Chidambaram, Tamil Nadu. His father descended from Sri Krishna Bhatta, a Veena-scholar in King Krishnadevaraya's court. Venkatanatha had an elder brother, Gururajacharya, and a sister, Venkatamba. His name honored Sri Venkateshwara of Tirupati, as his birth was seen as a divine blessing.

Early Life and Education A gifted scholar and accomplished Veena player, Venkatanatha was trained by his father and grandfather. After his father's demise, he was raised by his elder brother and educated in Madurai under his brother-in-law, Lakshmi-Narasimhacharya. Returning in 1614, he married Saraswathi Bai and had a son, Lakshminarayanacharya. They moved to Kumbakonam, where he studied Dvaita Vedanta, grammar, and literature under Sri Sudheendra Tirtha.

His mastery of scriptural commentaries earned him acclaim in scholarly debates. A devoted worshipper of Sri Moola Rama and Panchamukha Hanuman, he taught Sanskrit and Vedic texts freely, enduring severe poverty. Despite hunger and hardship, including his wife's makeshift clothing, his faith and spiritual pursuit remained unshaken.
