Gujarat Monk Gets 10 Years for Raping Devotee

A Sessions Court in Surat on Friday found a Jain monk named Shantisagar guilty of raping a devotee on the pretext of a tantric ritual at a shrine in Timaliyawad eight years ago.

The Additional Sessions Judge's Court sentenced the monk, who has remained in jail since October 2017, to 10 years in prison on Saturday. The victim was just 19, while Jain Muni Shantisagar was 49 when the incident reportedly occurred.
