Corpn lost about ₹7 cr clearing airport waste, show RTI data

THE Tiruchy city corporation has been losing significant revenue even as the Airports Authority of India shifted its burden of clearing garbage generated at the international airport here to the former in violation of rules, revealed an RTI enquiry filed by the The New Indian Express.
The RTI response from the Tiruchy airport authorities also revealed the municipal corporation was not paid a single penny over the years for removing the garbage.
The reply also confirmed the airport has violated the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016 (SWM 2016). Highly placed sources said the Tiruchy corporation lost about ₹7 crore due to this (from 2017 onwards).
