Assam CIC resigns after RTI query about brother held in Zubeen death case

ASSAM Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) Bhaskar-jyoti Mahanta resigned from the post on Thursday after an RTI was filed seeking data related to government funds given to his brother Shyamkanu Mahanta, who was arrested along with six others last month in connection with music icon Zubeen Garg's mysterious death in Singapore on September 19.
In his resignation letter, Bhaskarjyoti, a former IPS officer who had served as the Assam DGP, said that after Shyamkanu's name got linked to Garg's case, his conscience was telling him that if anyone were to seek information under RTI regarding his brother, it could lead to doubts or misinterpretations in the minds of peop
