Punjab parties oppose Waqf Bill amid encroachment of 38% total land

ALL political parties in Punjab, the Congress, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), have opposed the contentious Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, alleging that the next target of the Modi Government would be the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) followed by a dilution of the autonomy of Christian institutions.
LoP and senior Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa said the relentless assault on minority rights by the Modi government is continuing and is exemplified by the Waqf Bill. Bajwa cautioned that this is merely the beginning, with the SGPC and its institutions likely to be the next targets of the BJP's overreach, followed by Christian institutions.
