Mobile squads to crack down on illegal sand mining, transportation in DK

DAKSHINA Kannada Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan M.P. has formed mobile squads to crack down illegal sand mining, storage and transportation in the district with an intention to make sand accessible to the customers easily and at a reasonable price.
This follows widespread allegations from several public representatives and citizens about sand mafia creating an artificial scarcity to take advantage of the situation. During the last KDP meeting, some legislators, which included those from the ruling Congress, had alleged that sand is not easily accessible for common people, but they will get it delivered during night for a premium price.
