THE inauguration of the Library Automation and Online Lending Facility (Online Public Access Catalogue - OPAC) was held at the Udupi City Central Library in Ajjarakad here on Friday. Jayavibhava Swamy, Commissioner of the Department of Public Libraries, Bengaluru, inaugurated the new services, and said that a library is similar to a temple. Some districts of Karnataka have already started high-tech libraries. In Tumkuru, under the Smart City fund, a high-tech library worth Rs 35 crore is being constructed. There are plans to provide Air-Conditioned (AC) reading rooms, and latest books for aspirants who are preparing for competitive exams. This is expected to be a reality within a month," he said.
