Dalits Express Worry Over Cops Negligence In Filing Firs

DALIT leaders have expressed serious concern over Station House Officers (SHO) in the police stations under the jurisdiction of Mangaluru City Police and Dakshina Kannada district police not showing enthusiasm to file FIRs against atrocity and other cases filed by dalits.
At the monthly SC/ST grievances meeting jointly organised by the city and district police here on Sunday, Dalita Sangarsha Samithi convenor Devadas alleged that the SHOs in many police stations do not take their complaints seriously which forces the dalits to approach senior police officials.
In a recent incident, he said a dalit faced atrocity over a road issue but the Kankanady Town police refused to file an FIR despite lodging a complaint. Only after the aggrieved person approached the police commissioner, the FIR was filed.
