Amid widespread criticism by the opposition and human rights activists of what they call the encounter model of tackling crime in Uttar Pradesh, the state police have recorded nearly 15,000 encounters since 2017 and rounded up over 30,000 criminals in pursuit of their policy of zero tolerance towards crime.
DGP Rajeev Krishna said on Thursday that the department had maintained an aggressive crackdown on crime.
