Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences (SIMATS) has once again proven its mettle on the national stage, building on its record-breaking publication spree and unparalleled research metrics.
-
Chennai, January 01: Through a distinctive blend of medical, dental, and engineering disciplines—coupled with cutting-edge infrastructure—SIMATS has cemented its position as a sought-after partner for groundbreaking projects across India and around the globe. By effectively utilizing taxpayer funds and pioneering high-tech facilities unlike any other in Asia, the University has emerged as both a national pride and a global powerhouse in research and innovation.
Central to this success is the University’s transparent budgeting and rigorous project selection. This methodical approach not only boosts India’s global research footprint but also exemplifies how judicious financial practices can drive high-impact outcomes.
“Our approach has always been to make the most of every contribution we receive, particularly from taxpayer funds. We prioritize sustainable projects that bring maximum returns to the nation—both intellectually and economically,”—Dr. Suresh, Vice Chancellor, SIMATS
Data from SCIVAL and NIRF 2021–2025 highlight SIMATS’ received around ₹30.148 crores in government support, which was translated into 23,181 peer-reviewed publications. In stark comparison, even the highest funded public research institute received ₹1,604.22 crores yet produced 13,401 publications.
At the higher end of quality, SIMATS published 12,700 top-quartile papers, whereas the same public research institution produced only 9,580 of comparable calibre.
Overall, SIMATS demonstrates a 100-fold efficiency difference, proving that even relatively modest funding can yield prolific, world-class research outcomes.
“By blending strategic funding with relentless commitment to excellence, SIMATS has carved out a niche for itself, proving that top-notch research is an attainable goal,” says Dr. N. M. Veeraiyan, Chancellor of SIMATS.
