THE family of Diya Fathima, 18, who died of amebic meningoencephalitis while undergoing treatment at the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital last Thursday, has criticised the doctors at the Areekode Taluk Hospital for allegedly delaying her diagnosis.
The doctors initially treated her for viral fever, said her father, Faslu Rahman, of Kizhuparamba. He claimed that the negligence of the hospital staff significantly contributed to Diya's death, adding that the family plans to file a formal complaint with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, citing medical negligence. Rahman further alleged that the doctors refused to provide proper treatment despite his daughter explaining the severity of her symptoms. Her health deteriorated when she returned home from a leisure trip.
