Reserve Bank issues draft regulation for gold loans

THE Reserve Bank on Wednesday issued draft regulation for loan against gold ornaments as collateral.
This was announced in the MPC briefing to move towards a more 'principle-based and harmonised regulatory framework', so as to address conduct-related gaps among lenders.
The regulatory objectives behind these revised directions are to put in place a harmonised regulatory framework for such loans applicable across various regulated entities, and to address concerns over some of the lending practices being followed. The RBI draft further said that another objective is to strengthen the conduct-related aspects for the lenders.
