The Kannur corporation's intensified efforts to control the spread of African snails have started showing positive results, particularly in areas around the Kannur railway station, where the snail infestation had become a major nuisance for pedestrians.
This year, the number of snails has seen a tenfold increase in several parts of the city compared to last year, prompting urgent action.
The corporation launched the drive following public complaints and criticism over the agriculture department's inaction in addressing the growing snail problem within the corporation limits.
