RECENT data from the District Crime Records Bureau (DCRB) in Kozhikode paints a troubling picture of juvenile crime, particularly among late teens aged 16 to 18. Over the last three years, this age group has consistently dominated the statistics, signalling deeper societal concerns. In 2022, 26 cases were registered involving 29 minors, most aged 16 to 18. By 2023, the numbers surged to 44 cases involving 58 children, with 52 in the late teen category. While 2024 saw a slight decline with 40 cases involving 56 minors, the persistent involvement of 16-18-year-olds remains a red flag.
