Assistant professor faces backlash over alleged PhD thesis violation

A COMPLAINT has been filed against assistant professor M A Shinas of Madappally College, Kozhikode, for allegedly admitting to writing a significant portion of his wife's PhD thesis, a violation of University Grants Commission (UGC) regulations.
The complaint was lodged by Calicut University Senate member and Muslim Students Federation (MSF) leader K P Ameen Rashid, who has demanded a thorough investigation into the matter.
The controversy erupted after Shinas made a social media post claiming that he had written three-fourths of his wife's PhD thesis and was now withdrawing it. The post quickly gained attention, sparking debate within the academic community about research integrity and ethical practices.
Though Shinas later deleted the post, it had already garnered widespread scrutiny, leading to calls for disciplinary action against him.
