27 Families in Padavettikunnu Near Chooralmala Fear Another Landslide

As many as 27 families in Padavettikunnu on Chooralmala School Road are afraid of another landslide disaster as their demand to include them in the beneficiary list for the rehabilitation of the Mundakkai-Chooralmala disaster victims has not been accepted by the authorities.

The Punnapuzha is overflowing in the area due to continuous rains. These families are demanding that they need to be included in the township plan, pointing out that they currently live in a landslide-prone area.

Their houses are situated just 50 m away from the landslide-affected area which is marked as uninhabitable or 'No Go' zone by the expert committee. Meanwhile, a National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team visited the Chooralmala and Mundakkai areas on Wednesday as heavy rain is pounding the area. The 30-member team will camp in Meenangadi.
