IN a significant step towards disaster preparedness and mitigation, C S Rishikesh, a self-taught engineer from Muhamma, has developed a wireless flood alert system aimed at safeguarding lives, especially those occurring during night.

Rishikesh's wireless flood alert system is one such innovative device. He demonstrated the functioning of the device to Agriculture Minister P Prasad at Muhamma last week.

According to Rishikesh, the device is designed to provide early warning alerts to people in low-lying flood-prone areas before water levels reach dangerous heights. "The sudden surge in water level will destroy infrastructure like roads, which often get submerged or damaged during floods, cutting off evacuation routes. This is the major reason for loss of human lives. The new device is a relief to the loss of lives," Rishikesh said.
